Following the couple's bankruptcy due to Meadows' overspending, Karen left Meadows in and moved to Oklahoma City, where she briefly worked as a hospital clerk. Karen Silkwood lost her life mysteriously while exposing the corporate and government cover-ups of the hazards of radioactive materials.
